A bit about the band

Here to spread the gospel of funk, Acid Jazz and the tightest, most driving grooves. Gran Torino brings you an original set of tuneful groove music, peppered with the odd cover such as James Brown's Get up off that thing and influenced by a wide range of Jazz, Funk, Rock and Fusion Music.

With guaranteed impromptu jams at every gig, these funk demons really push the limits of their music to create a truly electric vibe...

Gran Torino - The name in Funk and Acid Jazz!

Guaranteed to tickle your funk glands and start your groove juices flowing, Gran Torino brings you accomplished musicianship combined with youthful intensity and commitment.

The band love nothing more than jamin' out their songs, throwing out big fat grooves, and really love funkin' it up...

A truly funktastic experience - Unmissable!

        NORTHBROOK AC

Northbrook AC is a club where enjoyment is just as important as achievement. The club is now celebrating 25 years in existence.

The club was founded in 1978 as Northbrook Striders and initially had only a dozen members. Today we have about 90 members across abilities and ages, male and female. As of 2001 the club has had the support and sponsor of 'Brose'.

As a club we try to cater for all levels of runners. There is a range of abilities from the sub-five minute milers to the ten-minute milers. Club members participate for different reasons and you will find competitive runners and social runners within the club.

During the autumn/winter season Northbrook participates in the cross-country season, and during the summer it takes part in the road races. However, throughout the year there are many different types of races (half-marathons, marathons, 10K races, fell races, etc) to take part in and club runners are kept up-to-date with local and national race fixtures.

Every year we have on average six runners competing in the London Marathon. In 2001 there were 11 club members who completed the course, four of whom were ladies. This year, 2002, there will be 8 members competing in the London Marathon and 11 competing in the Paris Marathon.

Of course, it is not all hard work and one thing Northbrook prides itself on is its friendly atmosphere and social events. These range from curry nights and quizzes to barbeques and pub nights and weekends away cycling/walking/running. There is an annual presentation night where the club awards its own prizes and trophies to various categories of runners. The club also organises the popular 'Allesley Festival Fun Run' that takes place every June.

As a club runner you do not pay the 'unattached' levy when entering races and most running shops will give you a 10% discount on non-sale items.

If you like the sound of all this, why not come along on a Wednesday night and give us a try. We meet at 7.30pm at the Jaguar Sports Club, meeting up in the bar afterwards (showers available). Alternatively, join us on one of our longer Sunday morning runs, 10am, same place.
